Year 2016

The college has completed 10 glorious years this July 2017. It has successfully seen 6 undergraduate batches and 2 postgraduate batches pass out in this 10 year journey. Both the undergraduate and postgraduate students have forged a golden path for themselves in their academic career with DES, with a cumulative total of 32 rank holders, undergraduate as well as post graduate students. Along with the academic arena, our students have shone on-field as well.

Our students have held captaincies in various sports like volleyball, basketball, athletics and badminton at the University level. They have brought glory to the college by winning medals in individual as well as group events. We have encouraged students to be interested in the application of their knowledge base, not just in the Physiotherapy field, but also in varied fields like hospital administration, financial management and business administration. Our college has a rich and varied research base, with the students involved in projects ranging from the adult and geriatric age groups to the paediatric age group, from women's health to industrial therapy, from the cardiovascular effects of diseases to respiratory problems in various professions and from physical effects of various sports to effects on multiple biomechanical systems together.

The Staff of our college is equally active in research, considering it to be a part of the curriculum rather than a separate entity. This is evident in the multiple papers published by our faculty, posters presented at events across the state and the prizes won for these. We have been active in organizing seminars, workshops and lecture series in topics ranging from cardiovascular testing to neural plasticity, orthotic manufacturing to kinesio-taping. Workshops on statistics are a norm rather than an exception in our college.

The college is enthusiastic in organizing camps to promote health in the society; each batch has been exposed to almost 3 camps in their 4th year alone. The college has worked tirelessly to provide a wide-ranging clinical exposure to its students, expanding its clinical base every year by forging affiliations with renowned institutions. Recent additions to a long list of affiliations are the old age homes where we cater physiotherapy services and a specialized gynaecological centre exclusively for care of the pregnant lady, which continues even after delivery of the child. We hope to continue these activities in the coming years, helping students reach their full potential as dedicated physiotherapists and promising individuals.

January 2015

"The year 2015 marked the 8th year of the college. With three more students achieving ranks in the university, the college now boasts of 27 rank-holders. The overall result of the college was 94%.

On the sports field also, students from the college have excelled in their respective sports. They represented the University, as well as the State, in various sports; notably badminton, swimming and basketball. The students won accolades in intercollegiate events. They also participated wholeheartedly in the sports events organised in the college. The scientific and research oriented conference, Scientifica, showcased the students' research skills, with 3 students of the college winning first prize in 3 different categories. The Masters students also brought home the 2nd prize for critiquing a journal article.

Another research oriented initiative, Aavishkaar, saw enormous participation from the students, with 7 presenting their papers and one winning the first prize. Staff was represented by Mrs. Aditi Soman, who also presented her research at the event. The college has always encouraged new initiatives from in-house faculty. This led to the first-ever Women's Health camp being organised by the college for all the female population of the Fergusson College campus, where the college is situated. These services have now been extended to other units of Deccan Education Society, which are based in Pune. Various workshops organised by the college included NDT and Vestibular Rehabilitation. An annually conducted lecture on ragging and its legal consequences, designed to sensitise and make students aware of the strict anti-ragging policies of the College, was helmed by Dr. Rohini Honap, Principal of DES Navalmal Firodia Law College. The oath-taking of the interns, felicitation of the worthy winners of academic and sports prizes and the release of the college's in-house magazine, Synergy, were under the aegis of noted cardiologist, Dr. Jagdish Hiremath."
